Don’t feel bad about needing to take care of yourself. You are growing a small person inside of you and you deserve to take a break! Eat more than you usually would, because you will need those extra pounds. Take a break after dinner and let your husband do the dishes. It is important that a woman takes folic acid during the first three month’s of her pregnancy. Folic acid helps create a strong nervous system for the baby and prevents Neural Tube Defects, including Spinal Bifida and Cleft Palate. For women who do not want to take a folic acid pill, you can find it naturally in green vegetables, rice, and peas.

If you are seeing a doctor for anything, you need to tell them that you are pregnant. Some of the tests that they perform at the doctors office can be harmful to a pregnant women, and they will skip these for you. Even if there is only a small chance you could be pregnant, you need to speak up.

Once you find out that you are pregnant, make sure that you find a doctor or midwife that you are comfortable with. Many times, women choose the first doctor that they see and end up having an unpleasant experience with them. Ask friends and family if they know of a good, reliable midwife.

Do not change cat litter if you think you are pregnant. Cat litter contains bacteria that can cause toxoplasmosis in pregnant women. Toxoplasmosis is caused by a parasite known as parasite Toxoplasma gondii. Cats carry this parasite, and it causes no problems for them or for most people; however, if it is transferred to a developing fetus, it can cause stillbirth, miscarriage or birth defects.

Take the time to receive a flu shot. When you are pregnant, your immune system is not as strong as it usually is, and you are more apt to get the flu. This isn’t good for you or your baby.

Using a hair elastic, expand your pants by looping it into the button hole then over the button. Wear a longer shirt or a maternity band to keep the waistband covered, and nobody will be the wiser. This will buy you some time and probably save you money too.

A tip quite often given to pregnant women is to avoid heavy lifting. This is a tip that ought to be taken quite seriously. Anything can happen to the baby in the womb, and it is important not to do anything that might put the mother, or the child, in a dangerous situation.

Avoid pesticides by eating locally grown organic foods. We don’t know how much effect these pesticides can have on a fetus but it is better to be safe than sorry. If not buying organic, stick with items with heavy peels like oranges as they are likely to be less contaminated.

As you can see, the advice in this article is a great way to worry less and enjoy things more, throughout your pregnancy. Try one tip or try them all. You will find that good information can make all the difference in how you cope with what is happening to your body as your baby grows.
