Things That Will Help You Through Your Pregnancy

By Mommy's Joy

Giving birth is a miracle. When this is your first child, you need to learn all you can. You might wonder how you can improve your pregnancy experience. The following article is for any and all women who are currently or trying to become pregnant and are seeking a bit of quality information.

Stop smoking immediately if you have found out that you are pregnant or if are trying to become pregnant. Smoking, as we all know, is incredibly dangerous for us but it becomes even more important to quit when we are trying to take care of a new life. Talk with your doctor immediately if you are having trouble quitting.

Add 300-500 calories a day to your diet while you are pregnant. Don’t forget you are eating for two so you definitely need to increase your caloric intake. Make sure however that you are adding healthy calories into your diet. Adding 500 calories of junk food isn’t going to do anything to help you and the baby.

Study up on what premature labor feels like and understand at what point it is time to call the doctor. Of course, hopefully, you’ll never have a need to actually use the information. Most importantly though, will be having an idea of what to do should this occur, so that you remain calm. If you can recognize a problem just as it is beginning, you may be able to stop anything bad from happening.

It is important that you are able to recognize if you are in premature labor, so familiarize yourself with the signs. Take in as much information as you can about this, so that you can make contact your doctor at the right moment.

Many people get super excited when it comes to decorating the nursery that their baby will be living in. Just be aware you are pregnant! You cannot be around paint fumes. Keep the windows open and use a low-VOC paint. It’s also smart to have family or friends around to do the heavy lifting and help you as needed.

If you have felt your baby moving around in your stomach, and then the movement stops for a few days, you should visit your doctor. Although this may mean nothing, there could be a problem with the baby that your doctor can help fix if taken care of in time.

When you are pregnant, it is best to avoid or limit your caffeine intake. You can still have one cup of coffee in the morning, but no more than that. Try drinking decaff or half-caff if you can. Any caffeine that you drink will go straight to your baby and may have negative effects.

When you are pregnant avoid taking any over-the-counter (OTC) medication without first consulting your pharmacist. Several of the OTC medications can actually be toxic to the baby, if they are passed on through the womb. The fact is many OTC medications – can and will – be passed on through the womb!

It is a good idea to pack your hospital bag when you reach 37 weeks or so. You are more likely to remember the items that you will both want and need while in the hospital if you aren’t tossing things into a bag as you rush out the door.

Do not consume any alcohol when you’re pregnant. Whatever you eat and drink when pregnant is passed through your placenta to the baby, and this includes alcohol. So, a woman with child shouldn’t drink. Consuming alcoholic beverages while pregnant can cause mental and physical birth defects as well as making it more likely that miscarriage or premature birth will occur.

With the above tips, you will be able to feel better about pregnancy. Pregnancy is great and special, but it’s also difficult. The tips here should help make pregnancy easier.
