There are many things you need to know when you are pregnant that can make all the difference in making your pregnancy easier and better for you and your baby. Pregnant women need to keep their skin protected prior to spending time in the hot sun like everyone else. When a woman is pregnant, her skin becomes more sensitive to the sun, which makes her more prone to sunburn and increases her risk of skin cancer.

When traveling pregnant, make sure medical care is always not far away. You should always be close enough to a qualified doctor or hospital in case a complication arises or you have an immediate need of any sort. Also, whenever you travel, have your phone with you.

Invest in comfortable shoes when you’re pregnant, as it will definitely help you. You are walking around with a lot of extra weight that your body is not use to, and it will take its tole on your feet. You will find they will start to swell, and you need shoes that are non-restrictive to battle this.

Do not hesitate to inform your obstetrician or midwife if you experience depression during pregnancy. There are antidepressants that are considered safe for pregnant and nursing mothers, and in many cases, the benefits of taking them outweigh the risks of letting your depression go untreated. You do not have to suffer, and you are doing a great thing for both your baby and yourself by speaking up and getting help.

Grab some rubber bands if you want to keep wearing your favorite jeans through your pregnancy. A neat trick is to take a heavy rubber band and put it through the buttonhole in your jeans. Attach both ends of the rubber band to the button and voila, extra space. Wear longer shirts over the jeans to hide the rubber band.

For a healthy pregnancy avoid harsh chemicals like bleach and other household cleaners. These tasks can be delegated to a trusted family member such as your husband or older children. Pregnant women should also avoid get their hair colored or permed during the first trimester when the baby’s organs are developing.

Stay active during your pregnancy to improve your health and make childbirth easier. Walking and swimming are great exercises even late in pregnancy. Staying active can keep your mood positive and make the process of giving birth less traumatic physically. If you have concerns about exercise, talk with your doctor to determine what activities are appropriate for you.
