Pregnant And Confused? Here’s What To Do Next!

By Mommy's Joy

There is a lot of information and support forums available regarding pregnancy. However, are you aware of some of the medical things that can occur once the birth has taken place? Here are a few things that you need to know about your body once your bundle of joy has arrived.

For first time mothers, babysit for a family member or friend. It never hurts to learn more about how to care of a baby before yours is brought into the world. In addition of learning how to care for a baby, you will know how to properly hold and feed yours.

If you get a headache when you are pregnant, make sure to stay away from aspirin. Aspirin has been proven to cause harm in both an expectant mother and baby. It is best to ask your doctor what medications are safe for you to use. Also, try relieving head pressure by using a cool compress.

If you experience any vaginal bleeding when you are pregnant, it is important that you go to your doctor or to the emergency room right away. Although it may be nothing, vaginal bleeding could be a sign that the baby is in distress, or worse, that you are having a miscarriage.

Don’t feel bad about needing to take care of yourself. You are growing a small person inside of you and you deserve to take a break! Eat more than you usually would, because you will need those extra pounds. Take a break after dinner and let your husband do the dishes. Its those small things that will add up and make you feel much better.

If your due date has past and you want to encourage labor, walking may help. Walking is a way to help move your baby into the correct position to be born. Have someone accompany you on your walk. Avoid dangerous techniques, such as contact exercising.

If you are pregnant and feeling constant cravings, sometimes it may not be wise to fulfill them all. Remember that your unborn child has nutritional needs and so do you. Eating every little thing you want will fulfill your personal food craving, but may not be the healthy food that your unborn child needs.

Do not go in saunas or hot tubs while you are pregnant. Expectant mothers should avoid places where they can get overheated because it can be dangerous for the baby. Common spa treatments often incorporate essential oils, which can cause complications and contractions early in pregnancy. Scents like juniper, clary sage and rosemary are possible culprits.

Taking prenatal vitamins is essential. Your body needs extra nutrition before, during and after your pregnancy. If you are planning on becoming pregnant, start taking these vitamins well before. If you are already pregnant, it’s not too late to start. You will still get the benefits of it. Keep taking them well beyond giving birth. At least until you stop breast feeding.

When you are pregnant, one of the things that you will want to stop as soon as possible is smoking. Smoking can cause birth defects for your baby, so stopping immediately will limit this risk. Join support groups to increase the willpower that you will need to stop this unhealthy habit. You must also insist that people who smoke do not do so in the same room as you.

Every woman will experience different body reactions after giving birth; however, after reading this article, you should now be aware of what may happen and thus not be completely frightened if or when these things occur. For peace of mind, rest as much as possible and seek medical advice if anything happens that is well out of the ordinary.
