How To Make Sure Your Pregnancy Is Healthy

By Mommy's Joy

There is nothing more exciting than when you’re expecting a baby, but it can be equally frightening because you have so many questions about pregnancy. This compilation of tips will answer some of these questions that you have and you will be able to incorporate them into your life, right away.

Change your eating habits if you tend to stay away from healthy foods. You want to be eating foods that have a lot of vitamins and that offer a lot of nutrition. All the food you eat your baby will be eating as well. This can effect the growth of the child.

Make sure you are educated about pregnancy. There are so many books and websites that you can read that will help you out. If you know what is supposed to be going on, it will calm your nerves, and you will also be able to tell if something is wrong.

Pay attention to your body, and don’t write strange things off as simply symptoms of pregnancy. For example, swelling of the joints and face is common during pregnancy, but excessive and sudden swelling can herald pre-eclampsia. If you notice any symptoms that seem strange or haven’t been mentioned as expected by your doctor, give them a call.

Quit smoking as soon as you find out that you’re pregnant, and avoid exposure to second-hand smoke. The dangers of cigarette smoke to your baby are so extensive that it is absolutely worth the stress of trying to quit during your pregnancy. The sooner you quit the less extensive the damage will be.

Don’t feel bad about needing to take care of yourself. You are growing a small person inside of you and you deserve to take a break! Eat more than you usually would, because you will need those extra pounds. Take a break after dinner and let your husband do the dishes. Its those small things that will add up and make you feel much better.

Buy new shoes. As your pregnancy progresses, the extra weight will throw off your center of gravity, putting additional pressure on your feet. This can cause both fluid retention and flat feet. Purchase some comfortable shoes that give you good support; they will alleviate some of the previously mentioned concerns.

Sleeping can become increasingly difficult as you get towards the end of your pregnancy. Find a great body pillow or maternity pillow that works for you. These are designed to give you the full body support that you need as you sleep. You will wake up less often and have less pain in the morning.

Food cravings are not uncommon during pregnancy, but be careful about giving in to every craving. You need good nutrition, and so does your baby. Stuffing yourself with foods you crave is likely not to satisfy the nutritional needs of your unborn child, so remember to include proper nutrition in your life by eating a balanced diet.

Eat breakfast every day when you are pregnant and make it a healthy one. If you skip meals you can end up feeling light headed before lunch time. Your baby doesn’t go 12 hours without eating after they are born, don’t make them go that long while they are still in your tummy.

When you are pregnant, you will want to limit the amount of alcohol that you consume. This means that when you are out with your friends, you will need to become more responsible for the sake of your baby. Practice good drinking habits to maximize the success of your pregnancy.

Now that you have a deeper knowledge on the subject of pregnancy, you can relax a little bit and enjoy it. Bask in the glow of it all and then use what you have learned here to take good care of yourself and give birth to a happy, healthy baby.
