Have A Healthy Pregnancy With These Tips

By Mommy's Joy

Dealing with a pregnancy can be a scary and difficult thing to do, especially if it is your first time. If you’re a first time mom or a concerned husband, read on to see what kinds of things you ought to expect and be aware of during a pregnancy.

Don’t skimp on exercise because you are pregnant. Staying fit will help reduce the likelihood of miscarriage, and may also result in a faster and less painful delivery. Your body will also bounce back faster after giving birth.

It is important that a woman takes folic acid during the first three month’s of her pregnancy. Folic acid helps create a strong nervous system for the baby and prevents Neural Tube Defects, including Spinal Bifida and Cleft Palate. For women who do not want to take a folic acid pill, you can find it naturally in green vegetables, rice, and peas.

A good thing to do when pregnant is to see your practitioner on a regular basis. This will not only help you in knowing about the things that pregnant people should know but it also will help you in knowing how to have a healthy pregnancy. This act can help in having a very smooth pregnancy.

If you want to know the sex of your baby, you have to wait until you are about 20 weeks pregnant. This is around the time that the ultrasound technician can get a clear picture as to what gender your baby is. But be aware, ultrasounds are not 100 percent accurate!

Although some swelling of the feet and ankles is normal during pregnancy, make sure to discuss this with your OB/GYN. This is sometimes a part of pregnancy, but it can be a warning sign of preeclampsia. Preeclampsia is dangerous and causes high blood pressure. High blood pressure caused by preeclampsia requires more stringent prenatal monitoring.

You should keep track of what you eat in a diary. When you log your food daily, you can more easily keep up with your nutritional needs. You can also take it to the doctor’s office to look over during your appointments.

Learn how to read nutrition labels and find out what to avoid. Stay with items that are low in fat and low in calories. Keep stocked with items that are high in fiber. If you do have a sugary snack, drink it with a glass of milk to keep your blood sugar levels normal.

When you first find out that you are pregnant it is important to tell anyone and everyone that you are close to. Countless times families have been destroyed over the simple phrase, “Why didn’t you tell me?” Some people may be upset that you are pregnant, but if they were important to you in the first place they’ll be supportive.

If you find it hard to stick to a healthy diet during pregnancy, ask your partner to join you as you change your old eating habits to new healthy ones. It is always easier to make the right choices when you have a helpful partner to support you. Both of you will see the benefit of eating more vegetables, whole grains and fruit.

Grab some rubber bands if you want to keep wearing your favorite jeans through your pregnancy. A neat trick is to take a heavy rubber band and put it through the buttonhole in your jeans. Attach both ends of the rubber band to the button and voila, extra space. Wear longer shirts over the jeans to hide the rubber band.

As you can see, there are a lot of things to think about and keep in mind, when dealing with a pregnancy to ensure a healthy, happy baby. Make sure to be aware of the advice in this article at all times, so that you can know what you should and shouldn’t do for your baby.
