If you get a headache when you are pregnant, make sure to stay away from aspirin. Aspirin has been proven to cause harm in both an expectant mother and baby. It is best to ask your doctor what medications are safe for you to use. Also, try relieving head pressure by using a cool compress.

Lower your intake of vitamin A when pregnant. Vitamin A can be harmful to the embryo. Don’t eat foods with this vitamin. You should avoid foods like egg yolks, mangoes, liver, and mozzarella cheese. You can eat small amount of these, but don’t overdo it.

Sleeping can become increasingly difficult as you get towards the end of your pregnancy. Find a great body pillow or maternity pillow that works for you. These are designed to give you the full body support that you need as you sleep. You will wake up less often and have less pain in the morning.

Slightly increase your calorie intake while pregnant. The phrase “eating for two” isn’t just a cute throwaway line. Expecting mothers need to eat about 500 additional calories a day to adequate provide for the baby’s needs. Make sure that extra calorie intake is composed of healthy foods, including fruits and vegetables.

Make sure that your diet is nutritionally healthy so your body receives its nutritional needs. Things like folic acid are essential to healthy development of your baby. Be sure that you try to add prenatal vitamins to your diet so that you can get extra nutrition.

Add appropriate nutrients to your diet and keep track of what you are eating. Ideally, you should add 300 to 500 additional calories per day during pregnancy. Keeping a food journal helps you ensure your additional calories are nutritionally sound for both you and your baby and helps you ensure you are taking in all necessary requirements.

Weight gain is inevitable for most women during pregnancy. Women of average weight will need to gain between 25 to 35 pounds, while women carrying twins will gain from 35 to 45 pounds. If you start out overweight do not try to diet during your pregnancy. Talk with your doctor to develop a healthy eating plan to ensure both you and your baby get all of the nutrients you each need.

Take your iron pills and keep eating iron rich foods during your pregnancy. You are now sharing your nutrition with another person, so eat about 50 percent of what you were eating. Iron is what you need to produce hemoglobin and that’s what carries oxygen through the whole body. You need more during the second and third trimesters.
