Being As Healthy As Possible During Your Pregnancy

By Mommy's Joy

When you’re pregnant, you can experience a lot of stress. All pregnant women want safe, healthy pregnancies and happy, perfect babies. Education is needed to have a problem-free pregnancy that will create a healthy baby. This article will provide you with some great tips.

Before you get pregnant, it is wise to visit your doctor. You can make sure you are in excellent health, and they will also give you some advice that can help you out. They can tell you when you should be ovulating, and some vitamins that you should be taking.

Get prenatal vitamins from your doctor or over the counter and make sure you take them on a regular basis. A good prenatal vitamin will take care of the needs of both you and your new baby. Make sure that your vitamin contains .4 mgs of folic acid for optimum brain development.

It is important that pregnant women make a labor plan before the big day comes. This is because when a woman is in labor, she may not be able to make decisions like she normally does. Make sure you have a bag packed, pick out who you want in the room when you give birth and make a list of phone numbers so your spouse or other family members can call your loved ones when the baby is born.

Don’t feel bad about needing to take care of yourself. You are growing a small person inside of you and you deserve to take a break! Eat more than you usually would, because you will need those extra pounds. Take a break after dinner and let your husband do the dishes. Its those small things that will add up and make you feel much better.

Don’t be afraid of the weight gain. You are going to gain weight. It’s not only normal but necessary. Your body needs fat reserves for breast milk, energy for labor and delivery as well as lots of extra fluids. Embrace the added weight and know that it will come off afterwards.

Keep exercising. Especially in those first few months when you may not feel so great, it is even more important to discipline yourself to staying active. Go for a walk in the morning or the evening. Do some light weight lifting. This will keep you body toned during pregnancy and make losing weight after the birth much easier.

Remember that it might take about one year to become pregnant. If you haven’t had any success within a year, you should consult with a doctor. They can let you know if you have medical reasons for concern.

Do not skip your prenatal appointments. Every appointment that you have is a chance for your doctor or midwife to identify any issues while it is early enough to do something about it. Make your appointments your highest priority and do not allow anything to make you skip them.

When you are pregnant, it is important that you are tested for STDs. STD’s can affect your health and your baby’s health, if you do not take care of them. Your doctor can easily test to see if you have a sexually transmitted disease by checking your blood, urine, or doing a pap smear. If you do have a sexually transmitted disease, you may need to have a C-section to protect your child.

During pregnancy, your body needs adequate support as you sleep. You can find various body pillows specifically designed for those who are pregnant at a number of stores. A regular pillow can be used for support if you don’t have a pregnancy pillow. Try sleeping with a pillow under your one knee and your stomach.

It’s very important for you to know how to care for both your baby and yourself when pregnant. Use the advice here to have the healthiest pregnancy possible.
