By Mommy's Joy

Pregnancy is one of the most exciting, surprising, and for some, scary experiences of a woman’s life. Many women are born with innate mothering extincts, however, having a healthy and happy child requires knowledge and research. These tips can demystify what goes on when you are pregnant and makes the process a bit easier to handle.

Take time every day to relax and enjoy yourself and your pregnancy. Pregnancy is a stressful time, and once the baby is born you will have much less time to yourself. Take advantage of the time now to relax, meditate, and reconnect with yourself and your unborn child. Your blood pressure will thank you.

You should change your eating habits to include healthy choices. If you change the way you eat now, when you become pregnant you will continue to eat healthy. You should eat a variety of foods but make sure they are healthy choices. Proper nutrition is important while trying to conceive.

Always use sunscreen when pregnant. Stay away from tanning beds, as well. During pregnancy, your skin will become more sensitive, and you could end up with some sunspots or sunburns if you do not protect it. However, be sure your sunscreen is safe for baby.

If you recently found out you’ve got a little bundle of love growing in your stomach the first advice anyone ought to offer is to take all the advice of your physician. They did not make it through med school because of good looks! Listening will help make sure your baby is its healthiest and happiest when it arrives.

Try to stay away from caffeinated drinks when you are pregnant. Caffeinated drinks like coffee, tea and soda can cause your blood pressure to become elevated, which can lead to serious health problems for both you and your fetus. There are a variety of different decaffeinated versions of soda, tea, and coffee.

Try babysitting a friend’s baby to get more comfortable with caring for a newborn. Having some hands on experience will help you feel more comfortable with the impending birth of your new baby. Don’t take off more than you can chew though as you get farther along in your pregnancy.

You don’t want to be in a hot tub or sauna when you’re pregnant. Extreme heat from sources like these are not good for a growing baby, so they should be avoided. Some spas may use oils that may cause you to have contractions early. This is especially true when you’re in the first couple of trimesters. Rosemary, clary sage and juniper need to be avoided at all costs.

Call your doctor for anything that seems “off”. You know your body better than anyone and if something doesn’t feel right, then use that intuition and give your practitioner a call. They will decide if it’s something they need to check out or not, but don’t hesitate to seek help.

Try to avoid some of the chemicals that would be harmful to your body such as paint and toxic supplies around the house. These will end up getting into your bloodstream and could affect the overall health of your baby. Be extra cautious when you are pregnant to protect the child you are carrying.

Learn the word “no” for those who want to stuff you with food when they see you. While you will need to take in more calories during your pregnancy, you should not go overboard. It is acceptable to say no thank you, so do not hesitate to refuse food.

The birth of a child is rewarding and the months leading up to that, will be wrought full of strange, wonderful and unexpected situations.
